Description
Circles is a self-hosted social network built with Laravel 11 and MySQL. Members register, post updates, follow each other, like and comment — a clean, Twitter-style experience you fully own. No SaaS fees, no monthly lock-in. Tailwind via CDN, custom authentication, no npm/Vite build step.
The feed shows posts from people you follow plus your own, with an inline composer. Posts can be liked, commented on and opened for the full thread. Profiles live at /{username} with post / follower / following counts and a follow button, and an Explore page helps members discover and search people.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the server requirements to run Circles?
Circles requires PHP 8.2+ with Laravel 11 and a MySQL database. Because Tailwind CSS is loaded via CDN and there is no npm/Vite build step, you do not need Node.js, npm, or any front-end build tools on your server — just a standard PHP/MySQL hosting environment.
Is this a self-hosted script or a SaaS platform?
Circles is a fully self-hosted PHP script — you download the code and deploy it on your own server or hosting account. There are no SaaS fees, no monthly subscriptions, and no external platform lock-in.
Does Circles include a ready-to-use demo dataset so I can see it working immediately?
Yes, a database seeder is included that populates your install with 6 sample users, along with posts, follows, likes, and comments, so you can explore all features of the social network right away without manually creating test data.
Does Circles use Laravel Breeze, Jetstream, or another starter kit for authentication?
No third-party auth starter kit is used. Circles ships with custom-built authentication, giving you full control over the registration and login flow without any opinionated scaffolding or additional dependencies.
Can I customise the design and branding to match my community?
Yes — styling is handled with Tailwind CSS loaded via CDN, so you can modify classes directly in the Blade templates without any build step. Since you own and have full access to the source code, you can freely adjust layouts, colours, and branding to suit your needs.
What social features are included out of the box — do I need to build anything myself?
Circles includes a complete feature set from day one: user registration with username, bio, and coloured avatars; a following-based feed with an inline post composer; likes, comments, and per-post thread views; public profiles at /{username} with follower/following/post counts and a follow button; and an Explore page with people search ranked by follower count.
