1. Project

1. Project

All amounts are in USD. Development effort estimates rebuild cost; it does not guarantee sale value.

2. Financials

2. Financials

No revenue yet? Leave both amounts at zero. Use representative monthly revenue and net operating profit; exclude one-off windfalls.

For a loss-making project, enter zero profit. This model does not value liabilities or forecast future losses.

3. Quality

3. Quality

Poor: needs major work · Basic: usable with gaps · Good: maintainable and ready · Excellent: polished and well verified.

Preparing calculator…

This calculator provides an indicative estimate only and does not constitute financial, investment, legal, or professional valuation advice. Actual transaction value depends on buyer demand, due diligence, market conditions, intellectual property, contracts, liabilities, and other factors.

How the valuation model works

The model estimates base source-code value from discounted rebuild cost. Domain, customer and brand bonuses adjust only that asset value, capped at 6%; documentation, tests, CI/CD and live demo receive no extra bonus. Business value comes from profit or a conservative revenue fallback. When business value plus 20% of adjusted assets reaches the standalone asset estimate, that combination determines the value; otherwise, adjusted assets determine it. Whole-project risk discounts apply after combination. Confidence is capped at 90 and sets the range width: ±15% for High, ±25% for Medium and ±35% for Low. These are transparent model assumptions, not market benchmarks or statistical confidence intervals. No AI or external valuation API is used.

Frequently asked questions

How much is source code worth?

Source code value depends on usefulness to a buyer, implementation quality, transferability, documentation, maintenance effort and demand. This calculator estimates a range using discounted replacement effort and, where available, business evidence. It cannot establish a guaranteed selling price.

How do you value a software project with no revenue?

For a project with no revenue, this model starts with development hours multiplied by a replacement developer hourly rate, then applies a development-status marketability factor and average quality factor. Transferable assets and risks adjust that discounted source-code estimate. Confidence is usually lower because there is little evidence of buyer demand.

Does development cost equal software project value?

No. Development cost estimates the effort required to rebuild a project. Buyers may pay less or more depending on usefulness, alternatives, business performance and transfer risks. The calculator explicitly discounts replacement cost before using it as a standalone asset estimate.

How are SaaS projects valued?

This model uses annual profit multiplied by a base 2.5 multiple, adjusted for revenue type, revenue history and trend. Recurring revenue and longer history increase that multiple. A conservative revenue fallback supports projects with little or no profit. Only a partial source-code contribution is added when business value dominates, to avoid double counting.

What affects the value of a software project?

Development readiness, code quality, architecture, documentation, test coverage, UI/UX, deployment readiness, revenue quality, transferable assets and technical or licensing risks affect this estimate. Real transactions also depend on buyer demand, due diligence, intellectual property, contracts, liabilities and market conditions. Project type and age are descriptive inputs and do not independently change this model's value.
